The Bible mentions the first man, first woman, first childbirth, first sons, the first sibling rivalry and the first sibling jealousy gone too far.Ever notice how there’s no mention of the first daughter?I’m a bit intrigued by this because I have two daughters. At times I’d like to let them know that they, too, have an origin, too, in scriptural hierachy, but scripture doesn’t help much.I know that the Bible was written by men – apparently those too concerned about chronicling the masculine…See More

Meditating With the Oldies

“Meditating to the Oldies,” takes a different approach to meditation: centering oneself by focusing on the familiar -- namely, music that relaxes, inspires, stimulates. I’ve included 40 tunes from many genres. I invite you to upload some as well.See More

Tell us all about love and how it affects you
Allow me to share a personal story:

The first time my wife and I expected a child, my wife miscarried a few months into the pregnancy. We discovered the miscarriage during one of her monthly visits, the doctor placed the ultrasound device on my wife's belly and on the corresponding monitor was a gray, lifeless screen.

For several months afterward I spent most of my workday on autopilot, masking an inconsolable depression, until days end, when, all alone or with my wife, I purged feelings of anger and sorrow and hurt.

I was fearful when we decided to try again to have a baby. But several months later we were expecting again. During one of the earliest visits the doctor placed the ultrasound device to my wife's belly and on the corresponding monitor was bright, flashing light.

"That," the doctor said, "is the baby's heartbeat."

That was the first time in my life that I felt truly whole. It was the first time I experienced what I had heard, as a child, the old folks sing in church:

“This joy that I have, the world didn’t give it, and the world can’t take it away.”

I hugged my wife so tightly that she almost fell off the ultrasound table. And for a few months afterward, that flashing light on the screen was a beacon that navigated me through the trials of life. Whenever I felt down or depressed or frustrated, I thought back to that light, and the child to whom it belonged, still growing inside my wife’s body, and nothing mattered more.

That flashing light is now a 13-year-old daughter that everyone says has her father’s looks and her mother’s temperament. And before I could ever hold her in my arms and marvel and what my wife and I had done _ and before she made, “Daddy,” the greatest word in the English language _ she gave me the greatest lesson of what love is.

Love is what makes you feel wonderful to be who you are. It is a healthy sense of selfishness, for you have every right to experience it in your own way, and yet it is the greatest by-product of thinking beyond yourself.

Love makes you open your eyes wide to the experience the joy, and close your eyes tightly to savor the memory. Love co-signs hope and redeems faith in all that is good and just in the world.

Love is a flashing light on a screen that lets you know that come what may, everything’s going to be all right.
Please express your world vision for love.
I wish we loved enough to know that it's not a matter of jockeying for pieces of the pie that are are growing thinner and thinner. It's about caring enough for those around you _ and recognizing the _ unlimited resources available _ to make new pies.
what is your 'inner child' vision for the goodness of creation ?
I will try often.
Who told you about us ?
You

The Rule is Still Golden

I once read that a group of scholars examined each of the most popular world religions -- including Christianity, Islam, Hindu and Judaism -- to see if there was one overriding message woven in each.

They agreed that at in one way or another, each religion conveyed the importance of the Golden Rule -- treat others the way you want to be treated.

I thought about…

Gabby-locks

I cannot believe people are still making a big deal out of Olympic gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas’s hair. I am sick and tired of this conversation, but I must make one more remark about it before I let it go once and for all. This won't take long.

About 15 years ago, I pierced my left ear. The first time I went into work afterward, I was…

Lance Armstrong, Drugs and the Truth

The biggest problem with stories about athletes accused of using enhancement drugs is that often the truth takes much longer to kick in than the drugs themselves.

That’s why even after the country’s governing body for sports drug testing stripped super cyclist Lance Armstrong of his record seven Tour de France victories, the undeniable, absolute facts behind the allegations still linger.

If the anti-doping agencies, other cyclists, U.S. procecutors and journalist trully know,…

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”
