Wild Horse Update - Comment Period Extended Until Sunday

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has extended the public comment period concerning the latest assault on wild horses - the scheduled removal of 2,500 wild horses from Calico Mountain Complex in northwest Nevada. Please, if you haven't already, take a moment to send in your opposition to the Calico roundup. Public comments will be accepted through this Sunday, November 22.

If you have already responded to this alert, as did more than 7,000 IDA members, please re-visit the alert and use the Tell-A-Friend function at the top to pass it on to your friends and family. Ask them to speak up against the inhumane government practice of removing wild horses and burros.

The fight to stop these roundups is heating up. We will soon call upon you again to help us continue this battle to stop this ill-conceived program. Thank you for speaking up against the BLM practice of removing wild horses from lands which were specifically designated for them by Congress.

The BLM has for decades mismanaged millions of acres of publicly-owned land for the benefit of the private cattle industry and other special interests. Land has been destroyed, and countless wild horses and other animals have died. It's time to to manage the public lands for all Americans who strongly support protection for wild horses and wildlife.

GET READY FOR WORLD GO VEGAN WEEKOct 25th-31st

The purpose of this campaign is to get people to take time to reconsider the effects of industrialized farming on humans, animals and the environment by educating people about vegan lifestyles.

From In Defense of Animals:

World GO VEGAN Week is also about celebrating what it means to be vegan. Veganism enables people to live in balance with all of Earth's creatures and promote freedom from exploitation for animals as part of their everyday lives. Modern animal agriculture is cruel and violent toward the chickens, cows, pigs and other creatures used to make meat, milk and eggs. During World GO VEGAN Week, we encourage people to become conscious of what - and who - they are eating, the effect it has on the world, and that a non-violent alternative exists.

Check out World GO VEGAN Week for a list of ways to get involved from recipes to community activities.

http://www.worldgoveganweek.org/

“I chose to be vegan initially as an energetic pursuit, as meat and dairy slowed me down, but have since become convinced that it is not only the most healthy way to live, but also the most compassionate and ecologically responsible way.”
-Woody Harrelson, World Go Vegan Week Supporter

Appreciation and Gratitude - you to YOU ... Love the Journey

Integrating the new
The energies of October will be offering us a much needed breathing space for integration and assimilation of the transformational energies we have received, before the next influx of energy arrives with the 11 11 gateway next month. Although this sounds as though we could be in for a more peaceful month we have a suspicion that it may not actually feel like that in practice. Over the last few months we have all made many changes to our energetic structures and increased our ability to download greater and greater quantities of soul energy into our everyday consciousness. Inevitably this means that there will be areas of our lives that simply no longer resonate with who we have become, so in order to remain in integrity with ourselves we must now make some changes. The energies this month will be offering us a period of integration and an opportunity to examine any area of our lives where we have been feeling pushed to expand in some way. For some this expansion might be in the area of work or close relationships, while for others it might be a change of location that feels important. Inevitably this period of integration will also bring us face to face with any parts of ourselves that do not yet resonate with the new patterning that we are seeking to integrate, so here are a few supportive thoughts from us to help with this process.
Releasing the old
The huge influxes of energy that we have all been receiving over this past year have instigated a process of rapid evolution that certainly has not always felt comfortable. In fact we often feel as though we are trying to live several different lifetimes consecutively within the same physical body. So it can be helpful to keep in mind during this process of integration that if you feel that your body is creaking at the seams some days, it is simply a result of the changes that we are all going through. Our physical body is our slowest vibrating layer of energy and it is normal for it to take time to catch up with changes made to our energetic patterning. When there is a backlog of change to assimilate it is very common to experience a variety of physical ‘symptoms’ as the body struggles to release what it no longer needs. We often call these symptoms, ‘vibrational flu’ because they can typically include general aches & pains, headaches, tiredness and disturbed sleeping patterns, as well as a general sense of ungroundedness and disorientation, to mention just a few.
It is also very common during times of integration to find yourself apparently revisiting old emotional issues and belief patterns that you thought you had completely cleared a long time ago. Celebrate rather than feel discouraged, because it means that you are reaching deeper into the pattern than you have ever been able to do before. Most important of all remember to bless what is coming up and to view it with as much love and acceptance as you can manage. Each time you make new choices in old situations you are reinforcing the new patterning and weakening the hold of the old.
This month give yourself a break, avoid self criticism and instead give yourself a moment every now and again to appreciate yourself for just how much stronger and more in touch with your real self you are becoming. There is nothing like some appreciation and gratitude to keep you moving forward!

A huge public-led campaign in Catalonia, one of the largest regions of Spain, has called for an end to the bloody cruelty of bullfighting.

The Prou (‘enough’) campaign has found huge local support. It builds on a groundswell of anti-cruelty opinion that has been expressed in independent opinion polls and in 69 Catalonian towns’ decision to declaring themselves anti-bullfighting.

Will you join the call for an end to cruelty? The sheer number of campaign supporters has already forced the regional parliament to schedule a vote on banning the region’s most infamous blood sport. By taking a simple online action today you can tell Catalonian MPs that you support their citizens’ wishes and encourage them to be bold in outlawing this archaic and inhumane activity.

http://e-activist.com/ea-campaign/clientcampaign.do?ea.client.id=24&ea.campaign.id=3861

Thank you for acting to save bulls from an agonising death.

Your willingness to speak out for these animals adds to the mounting pressure for Catalonian animal protection law to cover bullfights – effectively creating a region-wide ban.
We need as many people as possible from around the world to encourage action from the Catalonian parliament. Please forward this action on to your friends

YESSS!!!!

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has responded to requests from animal welfare groups to clear up vague chemical safety testing requirements, which will spare about 4.5 million animals from toxicity testing.

Animal welfare groups including the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments, Eurogroup for Animals, Humane Society International - Europe, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and PETA Europe all wrote ECHA with concerns about companies performing repeated toxicity tests in order to register chemicals under the EU’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations, which governs chemicals sold in Europe.

From the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection:

In particular, there was a danger that companies would conduct ‘screening’ tests for reproductive and general toxicity (which still consume dozens to hundreds of animals per chemical), and would later be required to conduct more comprehensive tests for these same effects. The language within REACH and its guidance was ambiguous on this point.

ECHA has today issued a press statement clarifying that animal tests need not be conducted if similar, more comprehensive tests are going to be proposed. Companies registering chemicals that are produced in quantities of 100 tonnes or more can therefore fulfill initial registration requirements without performing the screening tests if they are proposing to do more comprehensive tests later in the process.

The animal groups estimate, based on ECHA’s own figures that 6,000 chemicals may fall under the relevant information requirements, that this clarification alone has the potential to save the lives of 4.5 million animals.

The task at hand now is to make sure companies abide by this clear instruction and do not conduct duplicative testing on qualifying chemicals.

“We are delighted that ECHA has responded so promptly and positively to our request and helped prevent potential duplicative testing using more than 4 million animals. We still have other concerns regarding REACH and its implementation, but this common sense approach is a good start.”

Meanwhile, you can still join the Dr Hadwen Trust, Four Paws and the Humane Society International in a virtual march for their Make Animal Testing History campaign to let the European Parliament know that people want to do away with animal testing.

End Dolphin Slaughter in Japan

Target:
Japanese Government through the U.S. State Department
Sponsored by:
The Association of Zoos & Aquariums

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/end-dolphin-slaughter-in-japan

The Japanese government allows a few fishermen to slaughter thousands of dolphins and small whales in so-called drive hunts.

During drive hunts, fishermen panic and confuse migrating dolphins and other small whales with loud banging on metal pipes. They herd the dolphins into shallow coves and butcher them brutally. Every year, over 20,000 dolphins and other whale species are killed this way, including bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, spotted dolphins, Risso's dolphins, short-finned pilot whales, white-sided dolphins, and false killer whales.

Dolphins are intelligent, self-aware mammals with bonded social interactions. The Jananese drive hunts have been condemned by animal welfare experts around the world as brutal and inhumane, but pleas to stop them have been ignored.

Therefore, marine scientists and zoo and aquarium professionals, are asking for your support to bring this inhumane practice to an end.
Please sign the petition asking the U.S. State Depatment to make ending the dolphin slaughter a high priority in all negotiations with the Japanese government.
